gather! May 2025: Centering Mentorship and Community

From Mentorship to Momentum: Baltimore’s Youth Development Leaders Gather to Build the Future

On May 21, BCYF hosted its final gather! event of the learning lab series for 2025. This powerful evening brought together youth-serving mentors, nonprofit partners, and changemakers for an exchange of ideas, resources, and genuine connection. This month’s theme, Mentorship to Partnership, highlighted the powerful role mentors play in guiding youth toward leadership and community impact.

Each gather! event is a carefully curated experience designed to deepen collaboration and strengthen Baltimore’s youth development ecosystem. At each monthly dinner, participants shared program materials, discussed key challenges and opportunities, and engaged in peer coaching designed to uncover immediate, local solutions. Conversations and open dialogues about how our community can be involved in the development and planning of Baltimore’s own Youth Master Plan (YMP) are at the forefront of each gather! discussion.

A Space for Real Collaboration

Over a shared meal, participants engaged in peer-to-peer coaching sessions, rotating in small groups to share challenges, receive real-time feedback, and learn from others’ lived experiences. The event concluded with brainstorming actionable next steps to build partnerships and further the development of Baltimore’s Youth Master Plan.

Celebrating Our Accomplishments at the Community Exhibition

The final celebration of the learning lab took place at The Community Exhibition on Tuesday, June 3 at Baltimore Unity Hall. The event kicked off with remarks from community partner Mayor Brandon Scott, followed by live storytelling from grantees, a gallery walk showcasing both BCYF and grantee accomplishments, music, food, and lots of fan waving and dancing. The evening spotlighted the impact made by our incredible grantees and gave attendees an inside look into their plans for the future as well as BCYF’s, including the launch of #bcreds. The newly launched online program, designed by us specifically for grassroots and community-based organizations, offers accessible, high-quality financial learning experiences across all devices.

It was a chance for families, funders, and partners to experience the collective energy behind BCYF’s youth-centered vision.

Looking Ahead

As we reflect on these inspiring gatherings and look ahead, it’s clear that Baltimore’s youth development leaders are not only building programs—they are building a stronger, more connected community. The momentum created through these events has fueled ongoing collaboration and innovation, ensuring that young people across the city have the guidance, resources, and opportunities they need to thrive. Together, we’re shaping a future where every future leader’s potential is realized, and their voices drive lasting change.
