WBAL Radio: $8.4 million in grants distributed to dozens of youth-oriented nonprofits in Baltimore

While Baltimore City is seeing an increase in youth violence, especially in relation to guns, it’s easy to ignore some of the hard, positive work provided for young people, especially in underserved Black and Brown communities.

 

The Baltimore Children and Youth Fund, which is celebrating the fourth anniversary of its founding, just announced its latest round of grant money for nonprofit organizations. The fund chooses organizations that are fighting to help the younger generation and improve neighborhood conditions.

 

The effort to develop the fund dedicated to youth-oriented organizations was first proposed by then-City Council President Jack Young in 2015. The following year, the idea was put to voters through a charter amendment question on the November ballot… Listen to the full interview.
