Program Name: Youth Empowered Society (YES) – Youth Advocacy, Revolution, and Leadership
Award Amount: $230,000
Project Description: The Youth Empowered Society (YES) is an organization that prevents and eliminates youth homelessness through the synergy of youth/peer and ally partnerships. YES is the only dedicated drop-in center in Baltimore where youth experiencing homelessness, 14-25, can gather, access basic need resources, give and receive peer support, and engage in case management, workforce development and other programming towards stability and wellness. YES provides in-house case management and assists clients in acquiring vital documents, accessing public benefits, navigating legal proceedings, obtaining permanent housing, and securing and maintaining employment. Youth are provided with employment assistance including supports related to resumes, job searches, applications, mock interviews, interview transportation and coaching, paid job training, and connection to employment, onboarding and retention. We work closely with employers so that they understand the impact of trauma.
The Program also provides a safe place for 300 youth to explore housing and jobs options, engage youth in case management, provide counseling and health care options, secure housing placements for youth experiencing homelessness, provide youth with employment assistance, and engage youth in youth leadership activities, community education and organizing.
