Project Description: United Workers and the SB7 Coalition will establish the SB7 Youth Corps in South Baltimore. The SB7 Youth Corps builds on the successful Free Your Voice program supported by Ben Franklin High School (BFHS), United Workers and Towson University. Free Your Voice organized youth and community members to stop the nation’s largest trash incinerator from being built a mile from BFHS and continues to build upon on this win through classes, events and activism. The SB7 Youth Corps will be led by a team of Youth Community Organizers (YCOs) active, engaged high school students living in South Baltimore who are passionate about improving their community. Each team of YCOs will partner with an established community-based organization (CBO). Together, the YCOs and their assigned CBO will tackle a selected Waste Reduction/Beautification Challenge in their community. Teams will have a budget of $10,000 for the challenge which will be managed by the YCOs.

The Program will include recruiting youth community organizers (YCOs), totaling 60 young people in six teams of 10 youth.
