Program Name: 29th Street Community Center: After-School Programming Opportunities
Award Amount: $78,779
Partner(s): Baltimore Wisdom Project
Project Description: In the 2018-2019 school year, the 29th Street Community Center seeks to provide an after-school program for students from the Barclay School that are not being served by other after-school programs. The Center will also create a year-long employment program that will employ three recent high school graduates from the community to work for 20-30 hours per week as Youth After-School Coordinators. This employment program will provide support for the after-school programming, while developing community leadership through work experience and professional and leadership development throughout the year. This program addresses expressed community needs, seen through community feedback and surveying, while also providing critical support at the Center during the after-school time. The Center will provide holistic programming five days a week from 2:30 to 5:30, through partner organizations such as the Baltimore Wisdom Project (BWP), Baltimore First, volunteers, and the youth employees. The program is planning for daily attendance of students in programming to include at least 30 students per day.
