Program Name: Project Alpha, After-School Achievers
Award Amount: $13,437.50
Program Description: The Project Alpha After-School Achievers Program was established in January 2018 to foster confidence, academic excellence, and holistic youth development. The hours immediately following school dismissal are the most vulnerable hours for children and adolescents to engage in problematic behavior. The program provides male students with an after-school option to engage in structured lessons to increase the students’ knowledge on respect, life skills, artistic expression, anti-violence activities, and academic skills that may not be covered in normal educational instruction during school hours. The program will host twice weekly mentoring sessions with 20-30 elementary and middle school male youth at Calvin Rodwell Elementary Middle School, including field trips, to foster confidence, academic excellence, and holistic youth development.
