Project Description: PeacePlayers Baltimore is focusing work in Park Heights. The goal is to develop a network of young leaders who become catalysts in building a more peaceful and equitable society. PeacePlayers engages youth across racial and geographic divides in sustained, sports-based programming led by committed and effective local coaches and grounded in leadership development and peace education. Youth develop the skills, attitudes and behaviors that enhance their ability to reduce conflict in positive ways and emerge from the program as leaders who inspire others in their community. PeacePlayers Baltimore incorporates an award-winning conflict resolution curriculum that teaches youth how to handle conflict and be ambassadors for peace within their community.
The program will enroll 75 young people in PeacePlayers Baltimore. The practices will occur twice weekly, eight-week sessions where youth are taught basketball skills and introduced to PeacePlayers Curriculum. The program will also Implement Peace League Twinning – Twinning is an aspect of PeacePlayers programming that brings two groups of youth from separate programming locations together to participate in a joint day of programming at least 2-3 times per eight-week session.
