Program Name: No Boundaries Youth Organizers / Youth Workforce Development Project
Award Amount: $224,349.67 Partner(s): Learning Healing Institute Inc.
Project Description: This initiative is a partnership between No Boundaries Coalition and Learning Healing Institute. No Boundaries Youth Organizers (NbYO) is a youth-led organizing initiative building power for young people in Baltimore City. Students in this program learn how to advocate for youth issues and leadership skills to take back to their neighborhoods and schools. These skills are taught by inviting community members to demonstrate the importance of grassroots organizing. To date, elected officials, other youth organizing groups and members of other organizing campaigns (such as the Kirwan Commission) has shared with NbYO and joined for work in the community. In addition to political advocacy, NbYO performs peer to peer education with young people about community organizing, register West Baltimore residents and high school students to vote, and organize listening campaigns and actions that will reach over 500 youth city-wide per year.
Its partner, Learning-Healing Institute, Inc. in advancing advocacy and community build, will deliver direct services to young adults returning citizens, ages 18-24 years of age. Services entail workforce development and training, business coaching and mentorship, leadership and advocacy, as well as engagement with different and non-traditional business enterprises; working with potential investors to launch businesses.
