Program Name: Food+Housing = Success
Project Description: Our “Weekend Survival Kit” for homeless BCPS students provides nutritious food each weekend during the school year when the schools’ free meals are not available. Sufficient food for a family of 3 fosters “Family Unity and Strength” through sharing the meals. We want to expand from 110 families to 185 families. Families receiving the Kits become more involved with the schools, the children find greater joy at school and at home. Our “Hope Village” will build attractive low-cost housing working poor homeless families can purchase through specialized mortgage products. Working with Civic Works we address “Youth-Centered Workforce Development”. The housing will give the families that vital sense of “home”, a stable environment without fear of eviction.
