Program Name: Garrett Park Action Plan Activating the Park
Award Amount: $20,000
Project Description: This program is centered around a youth space that will provide health wellness and recreation services and will create workforce development for youth. The Friends of Garrett Park are seeking funding to provide local staffing for more youth outdoor activities, which would include youth leadership in the implementation and usage of park improvements. This effort would prioritize creating Youth Centered Spaces at the park as well as improvements designed to increase community health, wellness and recreation. As part of the process, CAC would work to train local youth to gain workforce development skills that will enhance Garrett Park and be subsidized through the Conservation Funds capital grant. Recruit and provide leadership training to area youth for involvement in the Garrett Park planning and improvement process to ensure that it is an inclusive and multi-generational investment that is open to all residents of Brooklyn and Curtis Bay. Youth leadership will be represented at the Friends of Garrett Park for direct funding and three youth will actively serve. Eight youth will be trained in carpentry and five pieces of outdoor furniture will be built in the park.
