Program Name: Carroll Park Athletics Initiative

Project Description: The Friends of Carroll Park are leading the development of athletic opportunities in Carroll Park and surrounding communities. Carroll Park is a regional park in Southwest Baltimore with six baseball diamonds, two soccer/football fields and four basketball courts. The athletic facilities are underutilized. Sport and physical activity are essential development opportunities, with pathways to health, relationships, economic opportunities and personal development. The goal is to contribute to a comprehensive ecosystem, where youth have diverse opportunities to explore their talents and complete pathways to pursue the activities they choose; undertake a range of planning activities, including meetings with Friends of Carroll Park and Southwest Baseball coaches to finalize the content of the training program; finalize the application process; identify partner coaches and community stakeholders. The program will also focus on recruiting, training, certifying, onboarding and supporting the ongoing growth and development of youth umpires to be placed in local youth baseball leagues as officials for 10 and under games.
