Project Description: CASA’s Immigrant Youth Program builds youth leaders who are well-prepared for academic and career success and engaged positively in the improvement of their schools and communities. The program includes an afterschool program for immigrant and Latino high school students, in-school SPIRIT workshops at partner high schools, and parent/student workshops on college access and financial aid. Immigrant Youth Programs serve 710 students enrolled at Digital Harbor HS, Reginald Lewis HS, and Patterson HS. These programs respond to the challenges faced by immigrant and minority youth, and are aimed at:
- Supporting Latino high school students in graduating from high school and preparing for college and career – through Mi Espacio and Escalera afterschool programming.
- Improving school climate and cross-racial communication, building student leadership and reducing violence – through the in-school SPIRIT programming.
- Improving access to higher education among immigrant and Latino students – through family workshops on college access, financial literacy and financial aid.
